About the Artist
Jia Ming is concerned with the total impact television has on the young generation of children in present China. TV has become the main family entertainment media and the most influential information channel.
Jia Ming's memories dwell on the communist movie heroes of his childhood. He paints them in a way that imitates their electronic appearance on the television screen. His ambiguous works contain a twofold message. While criticizing Communist indoctrination, he expresses his longings for educational values in the upbringing of children. The obedient, diligent, brave, quick-witted optimistic Dongzi, the ideal boy of the communist era, represents universal values, which according to Jia Ming were lost in the process of modernization
